Statistics reveal Guildford is the third best city in the UK in which to be looking for a job. A survey carried out this year shows that there are more job opportunities in Guildford than there are job seekers. It seems the economic climate in southern cities is more prosperous than other UK cities in the north of the country. Some northern cities saw as many as 50 people applying for any one job at a time.
Guildford wages are also in amongst some of the top in the country, falling only shortly behind London. With excellent commuter routes into the capital, Guildford is also a great place in which to live if locals do want to access the big smoke for job opportunities further afield.
2013 has seen a healthy job market for the city and its job seekers. However, Guildford Job Club advised to air on the side of caution, explaining that the number people approaching the organisation for help with job hunting has actually increased, despite an initial positive outlook for the job market.
For the unemployed, Guildford is a good place to be searching for a job. Job seekers will generally find work pretty quickly in the city and the surrounding areas including Epsom, Leatherhead and Woking. In recent years, the number of job opportunities available have risen, yet unemployment rates have remained steady. However, the welfare system has seen some changes throughout the year, which will have inevitably have resulted in job cuts.
Guildford Job Club have been working alongside the Guildford Job Centre to ensure those on job seekers benefit have all the support and resources needed for creating top job applications. Many older generation job seekers find using the internet and accessing a computer (vital skills for today’s job hunting) rather daunting, so it is important to ensure all people have an equal chance at securing a job.
It seems there is a bright future ahead for Guildford’s economic climate; despite the recession, the city’s job market appears to be healthy at present. If you are struggling to find a job you might well consider a move to Guildford in the near future!
